Monday What Are You Reading #65

It’s Monday What Are You Reading? is a weekly reading roundup is hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

This is technically a weekly meme but I don’t read fast enough to make that worthwhile so I post it every two or three weeks.

Finished in Print

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle

I’m kind of surprised I missed this one as a kid. It’s totally the kind of book I loved and still do. I’m so glad I finally read it and I’m looking forward to the upcoming movie.

I’m finally getting back to Sherlock Holmes and this illustrated edition is just gorgeous.

The Painted Queen by Elizabeth Peters and Joan Hess narrated by Barbara Rosenblat

The Painted Queen by Elizabeth Peters and Joan Hess narrated by Barbara Rosenblat

I have listened to and loved the entire Amelia Peabody series. Barbara Rosenblat doesn’t simply narrate these. She performs them as tha author said in an interview included with one of the audiobooks. I was sad when Barbara Merta (Elizabeth Peters) died. She left an unfinished book that Joan Hess has finished and Barbara Rosenblat narrated. It’s clearly not as polished as the author’s other books but I couldn’t pass up one last chance to spend some time with Amelia, Emerson and their children and friends.

Nothing yet but when I get back from vacation next week I’ll be starting The Painted Queen by Elizabeth Peters and Joan Hess who finished the book after the death of Elizabeth Peters. It’s narrated by Barbara Rosenblat who has done such a fabulous job of narrating this series.

I adore the movie and have been intending to read this for years. There were things I loved about it and a few things I didn’t like so much.

Secret Path by Gord Downie with art by Jeff Lemire

Secret Path by Gord Downie with art by Jeff Lemire

This is a graphic novel that goes along with an album by Gord Downie. It’s a beautifully heart wrenching story of a young boy that died while trying to get home from a residential school in Canada in the 1960’s

I ended up having fairly mixed feelings about this one. There is definitely some beautiful writing in it but the story as a whole left me a bit flat.

The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery

I never read any of the Anne of Green Gables books but when a friend told me that the main character of this book was her favorite Montgomery character I decided to check it out. It’s a lovely little romance that’s a bit different and I agree that the main character is great.
