Ten Things I Liked This Week April 2017

Ten Things I Liked This Week April 2017

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week in June of 2015 and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Wine Club Parties
Remy Wines in Mc Minnville is one of our favorites wineries. If you enjoy old world reds you should check them out. We joined the wine club a couple of years ago. Not only are the wines great but Remy turns the club pickup into a party twice a year.

2. Trees in Bloom
The trees around here bloomed late (stupid winter) but this week they were spectacular. That is they were spectacular until Friday’s windstorm blew most of the blooms off the trees.

3. This Cockatoo
He definitely enjoyes Elvis tunes. The one on the left is all “Back off, Dude”.

4. The Financial Times 404 Page not Found Page
I saw a tweet about this earlier this week and just had to check it out to verify it is true and it is. I’ve copied a couple of sections to post here but please go to this link to read the whole thing. It’s brilliant.

6. Potential Job Offers
We’ve known for a while that the company that bought out The Hubster’s company was going to close the Portland plant and that he’d be out of a job. We now know that April 21st will be his last day. He’s had some meetings this week that could turn into job offers and that would be a very nice thing.

7. Asparagus Pizza
I know it sounds weird but it’s delicous. Our local pizza place has this as their monthly special this month. We’ll be eating more pizza than usual this month.

Fresh asparagus is here and we’re celebrating by serving it on both our Asparagi pizza and roasted asparagus appetizer. The Asparagi is topped with lightly blanched spears of crisp asparagus, fresh mozzarella, creamy gorgonzola and local bacon from family-owned Hill Meats farm in Pendleton.

8. Fiona Running
You already know I’ve been following the progress of the Cincinnati Zoo’s premature hippo. This 5 second clip of her running made my day.

8. The Lego Batman Movie
We finally saw it yesterday. I loved it.

10. This Guide
It’s baby bird season and this guide from Bird and Moon is extremely useful. Then it’s extremely hilarious. Click on the image for the full sized version.

Ten Things I Liked This Week March 2017

Ten Things I Liked This Week March 2017

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week in June of 2015 and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Fiona the baby hippo
She was born six weeks premature and I have been following the Cincinnati Zoo’s twitter feed for updates. I am totally #TeamFiona
Fiona gets a ramp

Fiona gets weighed and a bigger bottle

2.The Hollow Crown
This has been around but we just discovered it. The BBC has done fabulous adaptations of Shakespeare’s history plays. We got the DVDs of the first season from the library but might end up the full set.
The Hollow Crown
Season 1 is Richard II, Henry IV – Part 1, Henry IV – Part 2, and Henry V (Tom Hiddleston and Prince Hal/Henry V in the last three)

Season 2 is Henry VI – Part 1, Henry VI, Part 2, and Richard III (Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III)

We’ve only watched the first two plays of Season 1. The productions are gorgeous and the cast is spectacular.

3. This pigeon
He marches to the beat of his own carousel.

4. This
Friends with benefits

5. Thinking before decorating
We might have to consider this
Scratching Post Furniture

6. “And then the murders began.”

This has been cracking me up all week. It’s way too much fun to try this with various books.
And then the murders began

Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive. And then the murders began.

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again. And then the murders began.

“Where’s Papa going with that ax?” said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast. And then the murders began.

One day when Pooh Bear had nothing else to do, he thought he would do something, so he went round to Piglet’s house to see what Piglet was doing. And then the murders began.

7. This monastery adopted a shnauzer
And it’s adorable

8. Choosing your battles

9. Steve ‘n’ Seagulls
I got totally lost in the rabbit hole of their videos. I now understand all the words of a few songs for the first time.

Steve ‘n’ Seagulls is a Finnish country band, playing bluegrass versions of well-known hard rock and metal songs.

10. This commentary on the weather
I can’t say I liked the weather this week but this commentary cracked me up.
All seasons in one day

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

10. Women’s Marches
I participated in the Portland march yesterday. It was inspiring and empowering. I was so happy to see so many families there. Our weather was awful. We were all cold and drenched long before any marching started but I’m still glad I was there.

The photos and stories from all the marches all over the world give me hope.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
