Ten Things I Liked This Week June 2016

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week a while ago and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

For some reason this one is a little video heavy but trust me. They’re all worth watching

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Excellent Customer Service
My BB-8 decided to stop working for some reason. After a couple of emails with Sphero Customer Service and some troubleshooting that failed they’re sending me a new on. Abby will be thrilled.

2. This dog blowing bubbles
This will make just about any day better

3. Cooler weather and a beautiful morning with time to take a walk before work
The splash pad was pretty in the morning sunshine.

4. Carpool Karaoke Broadway Style
I have watched this a ridiculous number of times

5. This
Exhausted Pigeon

6. Peach Green Tea Lemonade
Love this stuff on a hot day. I actually had this instead of iced coffee one morning this week. That’s how serious I am about it. Only 1 pump of the peach syrup though or you’ll gag from the sweetness. Also one day they were out of peach and I discovered that mango is delicious too.

7. This horse
Contractor: “I think I found a dead horse on your property” Mark N Kelley: “Nah, that’s just Pinto. He’s fine. He does that all the time.”

8. Trish’s Post About Bullet Journaling
I use elements of this in my Traveler’s Style Notebook. The great thing about the whole Bullet Journaling thing is that you can pick and choose to use what works for you and use it in your own unique way.

Trish has some great tips in that post. I’n not nearly as creative as she is though. For example this is pretty much the extent of the decorating I do in my daily To Do/Journal pages.

9. Hummingbirds and Abby
They’re getting used to the window feeder. Abby is not getting used to them being there and jumps up from the floor. She startles them but they’re pigs and back for more food in just a few minutes. Abby’s “Lardass Leap’ is at the very end of this,

10. Cool Clouds
Friday was a good day to head south from Portland if you wanted better weather. We saw some cool clouds on our drive to Southern Oregon.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Weekend Update

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week a while ago and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Weather a little better than expected
Last Sunday was supposed to be a bit dreary but it turned out to be a perfect afternoon to go for a walk.

2. Bout of Books 16
It’s nice to have an excuse for a full week of “Nope. Gotta read.”

3. It’s all about perspective
I’ve been thinking about it completely wrong.
Not enough shelving

4. Our new backyard
The big back yard redo project finished this week and it turned out even better than I expected.

5. I truly laughed out loud
The Hubster agrees that you can substitute Wife for Mom in this and it’s still accurate
Flee or clean something

6. Country Style Pork Ribs in the Instant Pot
We tried this recipe this week and it was great. It’s not a strong sweet and sour flavor but it’s downright wonderful tasting.

7. Another jigsaw puzzle
I finished this one the other day. It was both hard and fun.

8. This video
Sorry about the language but it’s the captions that make this even funnier

9. Eating with cats

10. Weddings
My nephew got married yesterday and it was just a wonderful ceremony and reception. We’re lucky to have the newest member of our family. It was a great day with family and friends.

Weekend Update

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week a while ago and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Penthouse view from Reno
We spent last weekend in Reno with friends and had a blast. The weather was a bit of a mixed bag but Monday morning was beautiful from our penthouse condo rental.

2. Great Basin Brewing
This is our favorite brewery in Reno. This is their Nevada Gold which is a wonderful Kölsch style beer.

3. A gorgeous day at Lake Tahoe
We drove over to Lake Tahoe for lunch and a bit of exploring on Monday. Lake Tahoe

4. This cracked me up
Decluttering

5. A Weekly Newsletter for the casual space fan crowd
Swapna Krishna is a totally unapologetic Space-Nerd. I get the best book recommendations and information about Space related news from her. She has ‘launched’ (I am absolutely NOT sorry for that) a weekly newsletter that is going to be interesting and fun. You really should subscribe.

6. A pretty evening in my front yard

7. This
Coffee, wine, chocolate

8. This commercial from Organic Valley
Yes it’s a commercial but it’s hilarious. I totally lost it at “Only 16% of women would describe their morning with the hashtag #Blessed. And that seems kinda high.”

9. A new jigsaw puzzle
It’s been a while since I’ve done a puzzle. This one is hard but fun.

10. Reading on the porch
I love it when the weather is nice enough for this. I plan to do more of this today.

Weekend Update – The Ten Things I Liked This Week Edition

Weekend Update

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week a while ago and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. Coleto Multi Pens
Remember those  big fat bic four color pens? These Pilot Coleto Multi Pens are the same idea but not nearly as fat and you buy the ink carrtiges separately from the pen itself so you can pick and choose from a bunch of different colors of gel ink and tip sizes. I got one of these a little while ago and loved it so much I bought three more. I keep on 4 color and one 3 color in my Traveler’s style notebook so I can carry two pens instead of seven. What can I say? I’m a pen junkie and these are my latest favorites.

2. Weeknight BBQ Ribs
One of the great features of my Instant Pot is that we can make BBQ ribs in an hour. Cooked in the pressure cooker and finished on the grill. This recipe is absolutely doable on a weeknight after work and the ribs are absolutely delicious. The recipe has been removed from the site where I originally found it but it’s still available through the Wayback Machine Internet Archive. The recipe link that works (as of today anyway) is here.

3. A stunning sunrise
I’ll be seeing more of these now that Daylight Savings is here and I’m back to going to work in the dark.

4. This post about Bullet Journaling
Bullet Journaling and Planner addicts seem to be all over my social media feeds these days. Since January I have been journaling and using a few elements of Bullet Journaling in my Travelers style notebook. I think this post by Allycia at Hope Dream Journal entitled Bullet Journal: For Productivity or Show? is just excellent. She absolutely reinforces that there is no right way to journal or manage your To Do list. Look at what’s out there. Find the pieces that work for you and figure out your own best productivity method. Mine is a blend of many styles and it’s working well for me. This is my favorite paragraph of the post.

5. My FoxyFix Mystery Sale item
Speaking of my Traveler’s Style Notebook, the folks at FoxyFix where I got it and a second smaller one that is now my wallet do some fun stuff. Every once in a while they do a mystery sale. You purchase based on the size notebook you want and you don’t know what you’ll get. The thing is that it’s a half price sale. They include some items that had minor flaws as some that don’t. When they announced a new sale last week I decided to give it a shot. I figured that if I got something I totally didn’t like I could work out a sale or trade in one of the facebook groups. I was absolutely thrilled at what I got. It’s the same leather as my others and in a color I don’t have. I now have a second cover that I can switch my inserts into when I feel like a change.

6. Cedar Mill Falls
Many people don’t know that this waterfall is here in the middle of Portland Suburbia. In the summer it’s a fairly small creek but the falls are still beautiful. This week I stopped by to see what it looked like in the middle of the wetter season. It’s nice to have this little bit of nature’s beauty just a little bit down the road from my library.

7. Baby elephants who think they are lap dogs

8. The Rock Your Handwriting Challenge
When I started journaling and keeping my To Do lists more with paper and pen this year I realized just how bad my handwriting has deteriorated as more and more of my daily life has gone digital. I just discovered this challenge this week and I’m going to give it a go for March. You can find out more in this post at Pretty Prints and Paper.

9. This person pretended to faint to see what their dog would do.
I still laugh every time I watch it

10. Mini donuts
Donut Byte Labs is one of the many food carts near my office. Their mini donuts are amazing and come in an ever changing list of flavors. It’s a nice thing to treat myself to for breakfast once in a while. I forgot to take the photo until after I’d eaten the second plain one and the second cinnamon and sugar one. Oops. I was hungry!

Weekend Update

I started doing Ten Things I Liked This Week a while ago and it’s definitely become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week:

1. A gorgeous Sunday morning on the Oregon coast. We had a little bit of everything in terms of weather over there last weekend. Naturally the day we left was the simply beautiful.
Tierra del Mar, Oregon

2. New puzzles. I have always liked Charles Wysocki’s work and enjoy the puzzles that feature his art. That second one might make me crazy but it’ll be fun (click on the image for a larger version).

3. The questions my Book Blogger Awareness Week interview partner asked me. The brilliant people at BBAW paired me up with Katie from Words for Worms. I’m not sure how I had missed her blog but I’m thrilled to have her as my interview partner. Her questions were FABULOUS. Our interviews will post on Tuesday.

4. My friend’s take on my word of the year for 2016
Alternate interpretation of Focus

5. Clear margins. I’m currently in the middle of a series of excisions of basal cell cancer spots. I’ve lost count of how many chunks of skin I’ve had removed over the years. Last week it was a spot on my left temple and I was quite happy to get the clear margins report from the lab. That means my doctor got it all and we’re done with that spot. This week it was a spot on my leg and in a couple of weeks I go back for two spots on my shoulder. Sunscreen people!!

6. This very confused fox who thinks the sheets are snow.

7. This. Thank you Beth Fish Reads for sharing it.
I won't die without coffee

8. Libraries
Multnomah County Library

9. Signs of spring. I noticed heather beginning to bloom while I was out walking yesterday.

10. Our Valentine’s Day tradition. A bottle of champagne, a small box of gourmet chocolates and watching our wedding video. It’s nice to have an annual reminder of the things the minister said to us that day and it’s also nice to see departed and always missed family members.

Weekend Update

I started doing this a few months ago and it’s quickly become my favorite monthly post. I love adding to my list throughout the week.

Here are ten things I liked this week – for some reason it ended up being a very cat-centric week:

1. This photo of Lucy the tiger and her cub from Zooborns. See more photos and the full Zooborns story here.

2. Daffodils in my kitchen

3. This made me laugh a little too much on Tuesday

4. The soundtrack of Hamilton, The Musical. I’ve been hearing about this for months and finally had a chance to listen to the soundtrack on Wednesday. I absolutely love it. It’ll be years before I’ll have a chance to see the show but I definitley will at some point.

5. Abby knows that whenever one of works from home it means she gets to watch squirrel videos.

6. The shelter where we adopted Abby shared this story of Lacey the cat who lived in shelters for five years until she was finally adopted this week.
