Posted by on Nov 27, 2016 in Currently, Weekend Update | 12 comments

Weekend Update

Currently //

Time // 8:05

Place // My recliner in the family room.

Eating // The last of the pumpkin pie. It’s excellent breakfast food.

Drinking // Stumptown Italian Roast

Reading // I’m currently in the middle of a binge through several volumes of the Chew series by John Layman. It’s darkly humorous and downright weird but also hilarious.

Listening // Christmas Music!!

Also Listening // My current audiobook is As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes. Narrated by Cary Elwes and several other people involved in the making of the movie. It’s fabulous. I plan to force encourage The Hubster to listen to it and then watch the movie again.

Watching // College Football Sunday. It’s the best college football show of all.

Pondering // Christmas gifts. I don’t have a lot of Christmas shopping to do. I only fill stockings for The Hubster, my brother and The Hubster’s sister. The tricky part is that only to the gifts have to be either good or fun but they also have to fit into the stockings

Avoiding// Thinking about going back to work tomorrow. I worked from home last week and had both Thursday and Friday off as holidays. Tomorrow is going to be annoying,

Making // Another baby afghan. I finished one just before Thanksgiving and I need to finish this one before Christmas

Planning // To finish up any chores and errands I have to do today in time to get in some good reading time before Thankfully Reading Weekend wraps up.

Thinking about // What I will choose as my word for 2017. For 2016 I chose Focus. It was the first year I chose a word and it was a good experience. I need to start narrowing down a word for 2017.

What are you reading? What are you listening to? What are you doing?

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Listening // My current audiobook is The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine. I love listening to Lisette Lecat’s narration of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

Watching // College Football Sunday. It’s the best college football show of all.

Avoiding // The news. The ugliness of this election and the expectation that it won’t end after Tuesday is depressing.

Making // A baby afghan. I need to get busy with this since I’ve got another one I need to make as soon as I finish this one.

Eating // nothing right now but leftover pot roast and mashed potatoes will be next on my agenda.

Identity by Ingrid Thoft

Listening to // My current audiobook is The Cast Off Coven by Juliet Blackwell. It’s narrated by Xe Sands. This is a cozy mystery series featuring a Vintage Clothing store owner in San Francisco who just happens to be a witch.

A Cast-Off Coven by Juliet Blackwell

Watching // Season three of Longmire. It’s as good even though it’s different than the Walt Longmire books by Craig Johnson.

Pondering // Vacation books. I always take way more than I can possibly read but I’m working the list of what goes with me next week.

Promoting // NEXT a new web series. I’ve already contributed to their Kickstarter campaign and I hope you take a look and consider doing the same. The series is about a Silicon Valley tech company run by women. Yes, I know one of the producers but I would have contributed anyway.

Blogging // Still a little surprised that I hit my eighth anniversary of starting this blog over the weekend.

Making // A baby afghan. I need to get busy with this since the baby shower is scheduled for the end of this month – yikes!

Anticipating // The next Bout of Books coming up August 18-24. Come on! You know you just need an excuse to read more than normal for a week, right?

Weekend Update – The Snow and Iced in Edition

Posted by on Feb 9, 2014 in Blogging/Reading, Currently, Fun, photos, Weekend Update | 4 comments

Weekend Update

Snow blew in Thursday afternoon and after three rounds of snow turned to ice pellets and freezing rain yesterday afternoon. It went from ‘Beautiful” to “When will this mess melt?” in a matter of a couple of hours. It looks like we’re not going anywhere again today but tomorrow should be warm enough to get things back to normal.

Currently //

Time // 9:30 am

Place // My recliner in the family room

Eating // A Trader Joe’s chocolate croissant.

Drinking // Coffee (Stumptown Italian Roast for those who care. This afternoon I’ll be trying some more tea from the Republic of Tea sampler box my sister in law gave me. Yesterday both the Cinnamon Vanilla and the British Breakfast teas were winners.

Reading // I’m absolutely enthralled by While Beauty Slept by Elizabeth Blackwell and I’m kind of glad that we won’t be able to leave the house today so I can spend a lot of time reading it. It’s Historical Fiction that retells the Sleeping Beauty story from the viewpoint of a maid in the castle. I am absolutely loving it.

Watching // We’ve been watching season one of The Americans so we can catch up in time for the second season when it starts. We rarely watch new shows and prefer to see if they’re going to last before we get involved. I heard so many good things about this show last year. Fortunately FX has been replaying season one and I made sure our DVR was set. It’s so good. Keri Russell is a total badass in this show.

Listening // My current audiobook is The Serpent on the Crown by Elizabeth Peters but I haven’t listened to any of it since Thursday. I typically listen when I’m in the car and I’ve been stuck at home due to snow and ice since Thursday afternoon.

Looking // at the photos I took this week and I think this one is my favorite

Blogging // I’ve got three reviews to write but I think I’ll have a hard time tearing myself away from While Beauty Slept to write them today.

Anticipating // Tomorrow’s temperatures that will be high enough to melt this icy mess.

We went from beautiful and fun

To adding a layer of ice

to “that sidewalk was cleared on Friday afternoon but now we might need a chisel”

Currently

Time // 7ish pm Monday evening

Place // My recently decorated for the holidays family room and enjoying the view from my recliner.

Our Christmas tree

Drinking // Stash Cinnamon Vanilla Tea

Eating // nothing right now but leftover pot roast and mashed potatoes will be next on my agenda.

Reading // Skeletons at the Feast by Chria Bohjalian. This is my last book for this year’s What’s in a Name? Challenge. It’s for the “Party or Celebration” category which is actually kind of weird since this book is about refugees fleeing the remnants of the Third Reich ahead of the oncoming Russian army. It’s a tough book to read in places but it’s very good.

Listening to // I had some errands to run today so that meant I had some good auciobook time in the car. I’m about a third of the way through Children of the Storm by Elizabeth Peters. I love listening to Barbara Rosenblat read this series and I’ll be sad to finish it.

Watching // We’re in the middle of season 7 of How I Met Your Mother. We never watched it until we started it on DVD a couple of years ago. Now we’re binge watching in on Netflix and plan to catch up and finish out the current and final season live.

Blogging // Not since before Thanksgiving. It was a busy long weekend for me and since I didn’t do a Weekend Update this is my version of catching up.

Making // I started knitting cotton washcloths. I found this waffle knit pattern and it’s perfect for mindless knitting while watching TV. I’m making some for Christmas presents and then I want some for myself.

Also check out that cute little project bag. I ended up going back to the yarn shop today to get two more. They’re inexpensive and the perfect size for holding small project stuff and the name is perfect – “Pretty Cheep Project Bag” – check your local yarn or craft store.

Planning // Where I’m going to put my Christmas lights in the den. I’m no longer allowed to put them on my cubicle at the office but since I work from home two days a week I can decorate my workspace here.

Anticipating // There is nothing on our calendar for this upcoming weekend and I plan to keep it that way. A free weekend this time of year is something to be protected and thoroughly enjoyed.
