From the publisher:
The Doomsday of Yule has arrived, and the future of dragonkind lies in the hands of one boy with nothing to show, but everything to fight for. Hiccup’s quest is clear… But can he end the rebellion? Can he prove himself to be king? Can he save the dragons? The stakes have never been higher, as the very fate of the Viking world hangs in the balance!
Once again a weekend road trip meant audiobook time. We were both a little sad to reach the conclusion of this wonderful series. David Tennant and Cressida Cowell’s stories have been a part of our vacations for a couple of years now. I’m not sure we’ll be able to find a road trip audio series that is as much fun as this series has been.
This book picks up right were the previous book left off. The action of the final two books takes place over a time frame of two days but those are two very action packed days.
As with many series finales (both print and television) many characters from throughout the series make appearances. It was a lot of fun to listen to David Tennant recreate his entire canon of character voices from twelve books and make them all completely recognizable.
It was a very satisfying end to a wonderful series.
You don’t need kids to enjoy this series and I absolutely recommend the audio editions. Most of the books are fairly short (around 5 hours). This final one was just over 7 hours but really any of them could easily be completed on a weekend getaway type of drive. I assure you that they will keep everyone in the car entertained.
3.5/5 for the book
4.5/5 for the narration
