From the author’s website:
When we last left Hiccup things were getting very dark indeed. The Dragon Rebellion has begun. Snotlout is the new Chief of the Hooligan Tribe. Stoick has been banished and given the Slavemark. And Alvin the Treacherous has EIGHT of the King’s Lost Things, and has been proclaimed the new King of the Wilderwest … But what can Hiccup do, now all alone and in exile, hunted by both humans and dragons? Can he find the Dragon Jewel, mankind’s last and only hope? And if he does, what will he do with it?
Once again this series made for an extremely entertaining road trip. David Tennant’s narration of this series just enhances the fun of the books. The voices, accents, and sound effects are just wonderful and it really seems like he’s having a lot of fun.
Hiccup is not having fun. In exile he’s trying to find his missing best friend while at the same time trying to save both his people and the dragons. There are some new and scary dragons in this volume as well as some totally hilarious moments.
I absolutely recommend this series and definitely the audio editions. If you’re headed off on a road trip with (or without) kids, they’ll keep everyone in the car entertained and laughing. I do recommend also having the print books though because the illustrations are almost as hilarious as the books.
3.5/5 for the book
4.5/5 for the narration
