Weekend Update

September Reading Wrap-Up

September was kind of a pathetic reading month in terms of numbers but in terms of quality it was stellar.

Comics and Graphic novels
The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil by Stephen Collins
Descender Vol. 1: Tin Stars by Jeff Lemire

Novels
Academy Street by Mary Costello

Nonfiction
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

Audiobooks
A Serpent’s Tooth by Craig Johnson

While everything I read was good there are clearly standouts

Favorites for the month:
Comic collection or Graphic Novel:

Descender Vol. 1: Tin Stars by Jeff Lemire

Descender Vol. 1: Tin Stars by Jeff Lemire with art by Dustin Nguyen

As you know by now I am a huge fan of Jeff Lemire’s work. This time around he didn’t do the artwork himself so it’s got a very different visual feel. The story however, is classic Lemire. Full of emotion while sparingly told and that’s exceptional considering the main character is an android.

Nonfiction:

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

This was a reread for me. It had been years and I wanted to read it again before seeing the new Everest movie. I’m glad I did. It’s still an excellent book

Audiobook:

A Serpent’s Tooth by Craig Johnson

A Serpent’s Tooth by Craig Johnson narrated by George Guidall

As far as I’m concerned this series and George Guidall’s narration is one of the best author, series and narrator combinations around.

Hope you had a great reading month in September and are having a great weeekend!
