Since my last update:
It was a busy week for me this week so I only read one book. I finished Rose Harbor in Bloom by Debbie Macomber last night. I enjoyed another visit to Cedar Cove. This new series of hers is set in a B&B in town and the stories mostly revolve around the visitors. It’s kind of Love Boat in a B&B. It’s light heartwarming stuff and just what I was in the mood for.
I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up to read next today. I have a couple out from the library that I really need to read rather than renew. I also have a couple that have been looking longingly at me from by To Be Read shelf. Then I got a copy of Night Film by Marisha Pessl in the mail the other day and I’m finding it hard to resist starting that one.
I’m feeling a bit of short attention span syndrome today so maybe I’ll start two or three and rotate among them for a few days.
On audio I’m enjoying listening to Miss Julia Renews Her Vows by Ann B. Ross narrated by Cynthia Darlow. This series is a light and humorous one and I enjoy them in audio format. It’s been great for listening to on my walks this past week.
Links I Like:
I thought this was a good addition to my weekend update last week so I’m keeping it (at least for every week I have some links to share).
- Bout of Books – I’m signed up for this weeklong event. For me it’s not so much a readathon but a week to try to read more than I normally do. There are lots of challenges, chats and giveaways planned for the week. I won’t be participating in all of them because for me the way to get more reading time is to cut back a bit on social media time but who knows. I’m leaving it flexible and mostly I’m looking forward to a week of choosing to read. Check it out – join in.
- I made this Mediterranean Quinoa Salad this week. Oh my goodness is it delicious. Makes a great side dish or lunch and it will be making regular appearances at our house.
- I mentioned my friend has revived her book blog last week but now she’s got a few posts up and you can get a feel for what her style is like. I strongly encourage you to subscribe to The Surly Bookseller. My favorite line in this post was “any book you have not read is a new book”. This is exactly why I don’t limit myself or my blog to new releases. By the way she doesn’t have a link to her Twitter profile on her blog but you can follow The Surly Bookseller on Twitter here.
Other than books and reading:
We went to the zoo last week. Had a great chance to see the baby elephant Lily out playing with her older brother Sam (he’s 5).

We’re enjoying having a membership to the zoo this year. It gives us a chance to just stop in for a quick visit instead of feeling like we have to make a day of it to make it worth the admission.
Last night we went to a baseball game. We have a new local minor league team this year. The Hillsboro Hops are a class A short season team so it’s a lot of recent college grads and second year players.
The Hops name is a tribute to the local microbrewing industry and the mascot is a hop named Barley. Of course they do have fun playing on the Hops name in ways that aren’t about beer too. They play ‘Hop Around” in the 7th inning stretch after “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.The team management has done a great job with the ballpark and the staff. Even with the threatening weather last night it was fun. I didn’t edit this photo at all but I thought it turned out pretty cool.
We had a rain delay in the middle of the game but there was plenty of space under the roof for us to wait it out.
It’s been a very busy week at our birdfeeders.
Hope you’re having a great weekend!
