Since my last update:
It’s actually been a couple of weeks since we were gone last weekend and I just posted photos. Vacation meant the things were pretty slow on the blog but I got lots of reading in. Now I’ve got a lot of reviews to write but posting will be more regular aound here.
Since the last time I updated about reading I’ve finished several. I read Voodoo River by Robert Crais. It had been far too long since I last read an Elvis Cole book. It was a good one. I was a bit worried that Joe Pike wasn’t going to be in this one but he finally showed up in all his Joe Pike-ness which I love.
I dipped back into another series I’ve neglected for a while and read Fractured by Karin Slaughter. This was the second in the Will Trent series. He’s such an interesting character and Slaughter’s crime fiction is just excellent. I’m glad I finally got back to this series.
I also read Leaving Everything Most Loved by Jacqueline Winspear. The Maisie Dobbs series is one I really enjoy and this was another excellent entry in an already excellent series.
I’ve started reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel and while it’s good it’s just not keeping my attention at the moment. I’m not going to DNF it but I think I’m going to put it aside and read something else for now and come back to it later.
On Audio I finished listening to The Navigator by Clive Cussler and Paul Kemprecos. These are fun escapist unrealistic adventure stories and fun audio. Scott Brick does a great job with the narration.
I’m back with Amelia Peabody and her family. I started listening to The Falcon at the Portal this week. This is one of my favorite audio series and I love Barbara Rosenblat’s narration.
In graphic novels I read the second in the Y: The Last Man series. This series is about the world after a sudden virus kills all the males except for one young man and his pet monkey. The artwork isn’t as spectacular as some of the comic series I’m reading but it’s still a good and interesting story. The ‘potentially present day’ setting makes for some interesting storylines and social commentary
I finished my first book for the Little House Read-Along. I was a kid the last time I read Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder but it’s actually fun to be reading these again. I need to get over to the discussion post on Lisa’s blog and start reading Little House on the Prairie
Other than books and reading:
The main reason things have been slow on the blog for the past couple of weeks is that we’ve been gone.
We went to Mexico for six days and had an absolutely wonderful time.
|How I spent my winter vacation|
We were in the Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo area and it was relaxing, beautiful, and warm.
We had plenty of time to sit on the beach under a palapa and read, watch the ocean, watch the people, enjoy a cold beer, and repeat over and over again.
We didn’t get to release baby sea turtles this year (see last year’s post about this). We did see them reburying turtle eggs in the protected area though so there are babies on the way.
We saw whales the first couple of days and one day while we were at the beach there was a shark just past the surf in the little bay where the hotel is. It was kind of creepy, yet cool to see a shark fin out there from the safe location of my chair on the beach. I didn’t get any photos though.
Today is Abby’s Adoption day. We brought her home one year ago today

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
